PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - The Oregon Health Authority has lifted a health advisory issued for a lake southeast of Salem.
The Oregonian reports (https://bit.ly/1F5bEf3 ) that the advisory for Detroit Lake was lifted just before the typical big lake weekend over Memorial Day.
The advisory was issued last week because of a blue-green algae bloom. Water monitoring has confirmed the level of algae and associated toxins are well below guideline values for human exposure. Health officials are still warning owners to keep an eye on pets at the lake, as the levels are higher than the very low exposure levels established for dogs.
Officials say people and their pets should stay away if the water is foamy, scummy, thick like paint, pea-green, blue-green or brownish red, or if algae is visible in the water
