ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (AP) - A county commissioner in southern New Mexico is under fire after he told a resident at a meeting to “drop dead” and challenged him to go “toe to toe.”
KRQE-TV in Albuquerque reports (https://goo.gl/TKhdpq) that Otero County Commissioner Ronny Rardin made the comments last week at a public meeting in response to a statement by John Turney.
Turney says he was merely speaking out against some of Rardin’s policies.
But Turney’s comments sparked Rardin to tell Turney to “drop dead” and asked if Turney wanted to challenge him “face to face.”
Turney, whose sister is also a county commissioner, says he felt Rardin was challenging him to a fight.
Rardin says he wasn’t challenging Turney to a fight but he stands by his actions in the meeting.
