DETROIT (AP) - More than 1,000 photos are displayed along the Detroit riverfront as part of the state’s Pure Michigan tourism campaign.

An event was held Friday to unveil the “Pure Michigan PhotoWalk” at Rivard Plaza along the Detroit River. It was done to celebrate Pure Michigan getting a million fans on Facebook.

The photos are pictures of places from all over the state.

Memorial Day weekend typically is the start of the summer travel season. Pure Michigan estimates that visitors spent more than $6 billion at state businesses in 2014.

Sarah Nicholls, assistant professor of tourism at Michigan State University, predicts the number of visitors will grow this year.
