LIVERMORE, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say the pilot of a small plane was killed when the aircraft went down in suburban San Francisco.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports ((https://bit.ly/1elgNJu ) the wreckage of a small plane was found Friday morning in a remote and hilly area near Livermore.

The name and age of the pilot, the only person on board, was not immediately released.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the single-engine Cessna 210 was reported overdue Thursday night as it flew from an airport east of San Francisco to the South Bay.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
