DETROIT (AP) - Plans call for restoring a well-known bridge that’s part of the former Packard auto factory complex to the way it looked in the 1930s.

The Detroit Free Press reports (https://on.freep.com/1Ajjvci ) workers draped mesh coverings Thursday on the bridge that are imprinted with a full-scale historical photo of the bridge. Fernando Palazuelo says it will be restored to look just like it does in the old photo and “this is a symbol for the city and the country.”

Palazuelo bought most of the blighted complex last year. He wants to develop apartments, retail, light industrial operations and artist studios.

He says the first phase, including bridge work and rehabilitation of the former administration building, starts in earnest July 1 and could be ready for tenants by the first half of 2017.
