SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A 17-year-old boy is recovering after he was beaten, kicked and stabbed by a group of men trying to steal his backpack in Syracuse.

Police say the boy was walking at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday when six men approached him and demanded his backpack. The teen refused and tried to run away. He was caught by the suspects who beat the teen and stabbed him in the back before making off with his backpack.

The boy was taken to a hospital with injuries that police say aren’t life threatening.

Police haven’t made any arrests.
