STROUDSBURG, Pa. (AP) - Police say an eastern Pennsylvania man has been charged with stealing insurance money that was supposed to cover his son’s drug and alcohol treatment.
Monroe County authorities tell The Morning Call in Allentown (https://bit.ly/1AjCfZk ) that David Derosa diverted $62,700 for his own purposes. He was charged Thursday with six counts of theft and receiving stolen property.
Police say Blue Cross-Blue Shield sent six checks to the 45-year-old Stroudsburg man to be forwarded to the Better Day center in Scottsdale, Arizona. The center treated his son from July to December 2014.
Police say Derosa instead cashed or deposited checks into his personal account at a federal credit union.
He was arraigned this week and released on $50,000 bail.
