ESSEX, Vt. (AP) - Police in Essex, Vermont, believe a body recovered from the Winooski River is that of a man who jumped from a bridge over the river in December.

Essex Det. George Murtie says the body was spotted at about 12:30 Friday afternoon.

Although authorities stress that positive identification has not been made, Murtie says the body matches the description of 22-year-old Matt Trono, who is believed to have drowned after jumping off the North Williston Bridge.

The body was recovered about one mile from the power plant in Essex.

The medical examiner’s office will perform an autopsy and determine the man’s identification.
