PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) - A larger Port Huron welcome center designed for motorists entering the United States from Canada is now open.

The Michigan Department of Transportation announced the opening on Friday. Travelers cross between the U.S. and Canada in Port Huron at the Blue Water Bridge.

The St. Clair County city borders the province of Ontario. The new center on Interstate 94 replaces one razed in 2012 to make way for a freeway widening and bridge expansion project. Construction started a year ago on the roughly 7,200-square-foot facility.

It’s more than three times larger than its predecessor. It also has more parking that should better accommodate campers and trucks.
