ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - About 80 miles of the Dalton Highway north of the Brooks Range will remain closed until at least next week because of flooding.

Anchorage television station KTUU reports (https://is.gd/MEbThk ) the highway is closed from Mile 334.5 to Mile 413, or at the edge of the community of Deadhorse, because of flooding from the Sagavanirktok River.

Water levels vary along the 80-mile closure, but state transportation officials say about 2-feet of water is over the road at some parts. There’s also concern the water is eroding the road.

Crews were able divert water Thursday away from the Deadhorse Airport, which remains open.

State workers are staged in Deadhorse, ready to assess damage and make repairs once water recedes.

Gov. Bill Walker issued a disaster declaration Friday, allowing the state to request emergency federal funds.
