CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Two state corrections officers have been indicted, one accused of using a knife to cut a prisoner’s shirt, and both accused of withholding medical care from him unless he said he cut himself.

Corrections spokesman Jeff Lyons said 47-year-old Robert Gauthier of Epsom and 40-year-old Dennis Fitton of Alexandria have been suspended with pay pending an investigation.

The Concord Monitor reports (https://bit.ly/1KovEjr) Gauthier used the knife last July to slice Roshun Austin’s shirt, then discarded it and offered him “gifts and favors” if he lied about what happened.

Fitton, a sergeant, is accused of refusing Austin medical attention until he agreed to write a statement implicating himself.

The officers could not be reached to comment. Both are charged with witness tampering; Gauthier also faces reckless conduct and falsifying evidence charges.
