MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - The son of Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson is accused of impersonating a peace officer.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency officials say 32-year-old Sandys Stimpson was stopped for speeding Friday morning in Mobile County.

Trooper Jamie L. Maloy says Stimpson identified himself as a game and fish officer and showed a deputy game and fish warden badge. Maloy says Stimpson also had a firearm mounted on his vehicle’s console and was wearing green pants similar to uniforms state conservation officers wear.

Maloy says a state conservation official confirmed that Stimpson doesn’t work for the department.

Kevin Dodd of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources tells Al.com the deputy warden title is similar to an honorary appointment and deputy wardens have no authority.

It’s unclear if Stimpson has an attorney.
