CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Oregon State University is repurposing the housing co-ops it shut down a year ago to serve as hubs for student services.

The Gazette-Times reports (https://bit.ly/1FIeZpZ) only Dixon Lodge will have people living in it by the time each of the four co-operative houses are finished in fall 2016, and its residents will solely be visiting scholars and researchers.

The other three will have offerings like referrals for services, a pantry and support for students with children.

One co-op will become office space for University Housing and Dining Services. Department director Dan Larson says on-campus housing has grown since co-ops were eliminated due to financial and governance concerns.

Cooperative Housing Alumni Association president Paul Aljets says as the university grows, “quaint will be replaced with efficient.”
