TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Smoking in cars in Tempe just got harder after the City of Tempe Council approved an ordinance that bans smoking in a car with a child inside.

KSAZ-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1F59Oea ) that the ordinance bans the use of all smoking items, including e-cigarettes, in a car with someone under 18 inside. Police can only issue a citation if there is another reason for the stop, such as speeding.

First-time smoking offenders will be fined $50, after which fines increase to $100.

The ordinance will take effect in 30 days.
