PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Police say a Rhode Island woman who tripped and became trapped underneath a bus is in critical but stable condition, and the bus driver has been placed on leave pending an investigation.
Thirty-one-year-old Bobbie Moore of Coventry was hit by a Rhode Island Public Transit Authority bus in Providence on Wednesday afternoon.
RIPTA spokeswoman Barbara Polichetti says video shows the bus pulling away from the curb when Moore falls or stumbles, hits the side of the bus and lands beneath the rear wheels. Emergency responders took 20 to 30 minutes to free her using industrial air bags.
Moore is being treated at Rhode Island Hospital.
The driver has been placed on administrative leave while police investigate. Officials haven’t released the driver’s name.
No charges have been filed.
