MARYVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Two people are dead and six injured after an SUV drove into oncoming traffic, striking four motorcycles.

Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers told WATE-TV (https://bit.ly/1PDsZpC) the crash happened around 7 p.m. Friday night on E. Lamar Alexander Parkway in Maryville.

Bryan W. Shafer, 57, and his passenger Nancy A. Shaffer, 51, were killed. They were both from Cordova and were riding the same motorcycle.

Injured were the driver of the SUV and her 3-year-old daughter along with four people who were on the other three motorcycles. All the injured were transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

All of the motorcyclists were wearing helmets.

The highway was closed until 1:15 a.m. Saturday morning while THP investigated the crash.
