SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - Two people were killed in a head-on collision involving a wrong-way driver early Saturday on Interstate 80 in Sparks.

The Nevada Highway Patrol says a pickup driven by a man with a male passenger was heading westbound in the eastbound lanes when it struck a car driven by a man with an adult female passenger near the Sparks Boulevard exit shortly after 3 a.m.

The pickup driver and car passenger were pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two were taken to the hospital with critical life-threatening injuries. Their names weren’t immediately released.

Troopers say alcohol is a factor in the accident, and it’s unknown if the occupants were wearing seat belts.

I-80’s eastbound lanes were shut down for several hours while troopers investigated the accident.
