CHICAGO (AP) - A 4-year-old girl was shot in the head outside a home in Chicago where relatives were attending a high school prom party.
Jacele Johnson was taken in critical condition to Comer Children’s Hospital. With tears streaming down her face, the girl’s mother told reporters her daughter was responsive after surgery to remove a bullet from her head.
A 17-year-old cousin of the girl and another teenage bystander were also struck and injured in the shooting in the Englewood neighborhood. Both were hospitalized.
Police say they were hit by a gunman firing from a vehicle at another car parked outside the prom party.
They were among at least 18 people shot across Chicago since Friday afternoon in a violent start to the long Memorial Day weekend. Two of them were killed.
