PRICE, Utah (AP) - Former Carbon County Sheriff James Cordova has pleaded guilty to using a county vehicle, trailer and credit card to move to his new home in Washington County.

He pleaded guilty Friday in 7th District Court to a felony count of misusing public money in return for dismissal of a misdemeanor count of a license plate violation.

Prosecutors say he spent over $2,000 on the credit card to fuel his patrol vehicle pulling a trailer while hauling personal items to his new home in St. George.

His plea will be held in abeyance for three years, at which time the case will be dismissed if he completes 80 hours of community service and pays restitution of $2,166.

Cordova apologized Friday, saying the case reflects “obviously bad judgment” on his part.

He was first elected sheriff in 1999 and didn’t seek re-election last year.
