JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Police in Jackson are manning a mobile command post for the Memorial Day weekend in a part of the city that authorities say has seen a recent spate of violent crime.

WAPT-TV reports that police were on the scene Friday, checking the speed of drivers on Medgar Evers Boulevard (https://bit.ly/1Fvc3tJ). The street is near the scene of a Wednesday gun death at an apartment complex.

Police say the killing of a man at the Sunset Plaza apartments was retaliation for the death 10 days earlier a man killed while working on his car in a driveway after a fight over a car repair.

The shooting last weekend of a police officer at a gas station is another of the crimes that led police to set up the command post.
