JACKSON, Mich. (AP) - Jackson’s man-made, illuminated waterfall known as the Cascades is reopening.

The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports (https://bit.ly/1Llgmty ) the completion of the first round of renovation will be marked Saturday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, remarks by local officials and a fireworks show. Among the work done so far: The removal of a concrete wall that blocked the view of the waterfall and replacement of amphitheater seating.

Organizers say the estimated $9 million, multi-year project to upgrade the landmark at Cascade Falls Park also will include engineering, electrical and mechanical upgrades, repairs to the waterfall itself and, eventually, a visitors’ center.

Work is expected to proceed during each offseason and the waterfall will be open during the summer.

Saturday’s admission is $6, and children up to 10 are free with a paying adult.
