LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - A judge in Lubbock has ordered Texas Tech University to restore the job responsibilities of a business school professor who has sued the school.

Court documents reviewed by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal (https://bit.ly/1dqMb93 ) show State District Judge Ruben Reyes issued a default judgment for James Wetherbe this week after the Texas Attorney General’s Office missed a deadline to respond to a lawsuit from the professor.

Texas Tech spokesman Chris Cook says the school is confident the judge’s order won’t stand.

Wetherbe has said he disagrees with tenure, a status that nearly guarantees a professor’s job, because it could reward poor teachers. He contends in a lawsuit against the school his views took him out of consideration for top positions in the business school and led to diminishing teaching responsibilities.
