DETROIT (AP) - Detroit police say a man has been fatally shot after jumping off his porch and shooting at officers.
Police Chief James Craig says the man’s death ended a standoff Saturday at a house on the city’s northwest side. He says an officer was shot in the face with pellets but his injury is not life-threatening.
Craig says officers believed the 25-year-old man would surrender. But he says the man instead “jumped off the porch” with a shotgun and began firing.
The police chief says the man had barricaded himself in the house with his estranged wife and children. The children were released before the shooting. The man’s wife was not injured.
