Norfolk to talk to Portsmouth deputies slated to lose jobs

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office wants to meet with deputies in nearby Portsmouth who are being laid off.

Norfolk sheriff spokeswoman Karen Hopkins says her office has deputy jobs to fill.

The Virginian-Pilot (https://bit.ly/1HCaj2z) reports 18 deputies in Portsmouth are losing their jobs due to budget cuts.

Norfolk Sheriff Bob McCabe says his office wants to reach out to those deputies right away.
