OGDEN, Utah (AP) - An Ogden man has been charged with tying rubber bands around his dog’s mouth, suffocating her.

The man was charged Friday with torture of a companion animal. An arrest warrant affidavit says he told police that he was angry because the dog kept chewing his belongings.

They say witnesses called one night in march when they saw the dog tethered on a very short cord with six elastic bands wrapped 15 times around her muzzle.

The charges do not mention the dog’s breed or age.

A necropsy showed the bands were so tight that they actually indented the animal’s tongue, which was inside her mouth.

The affidavit says the dog was observed that way by witnesses for at least 12 hours.
