IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - A passenger in a semitrailer traveling near Iowa City has died after the truck slammed into an overpass.

Des Moines televisions station KCCI reports (https://bit.ly/1AqAyJi ) that 39-year-old Gary Griffey, of Lafayette, Indiana, died at an Iowa City hospital following the Friday morning crash.

The Iowa State Patrol says the semi crashed in the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Iowa City at 8:12 a.m.



Investigators say the semi drifted right off the shoulder and hit the overpass. The truck came to rest on the interstate and caught fire.

The driver, 24-year-old Shawn Freeman, of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, was injured and taken to an Iowa City hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
