MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police say they will be doing checkpoints around the state over the Memorial Day weekend and through next week to crack down on impaired and aggressive drivers.

Police say they are planning checkpoints in Caledonia, Chittenden, Essex, Franklin and Lamoille counties through May 31.

They will be looking for impaired drivers as well as motor vehicle safety violators.

Police say impaired driving and lack of seat belt use continue to be the major contributing factors in deaths on Vermont roads.
