SANDWICH, Mass. (AP) - A Cape Cod teenager has been burned after he accidentally kicked a propane torch onto a fire.

Firefighters say they responded to a house on Falmouth Sandwich Road at about 11 a.m. on Saturday and found a fire spreading to the home’s deck.

The 18-year-old, who was not identified, tried to clear some of the burning debris from the deck, but a propane torch was among the debris and exploded.

The teen’s face, hands and arms were burned. He was transported by helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. Officials say he was conscious and alert while being transported.

The Sandwich Fire Department said the incident is a reminder to be careful around outdoor fire pits this summer.
