CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Police Department has disciplined an officer with a five-day unpaid suspension after video shot by a passer-by caught him apparently sleeping in his patrol SUV.
The video was shared widely on social media. It shows the officer with his head slumped against the headrest and still wearing his sunglasses and protective vest.
Police spokesman Martin Maloney says in a statement that the incident is “unacceptable and not in keeping with the high expectations placed on our officers.”
The officer was not identified by name.
The video was recorded in the Southwest Side Chicago Lawn neighborhood.
On the recording, the man shooting the video notes it’s a high crime area before leaning right into the vehicle’s open window without the officer stirring.
