ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A convicted Anchorage felon spotted Sunday carrying a weapon has been arrested.

Anchorage police say 25-year-old William Jarrett IV was arrested just after 3 p.m. after he was tracked and bitten by a police dog.

Police say Jarrett early Sunday got into a fight with his roommate and walked out with the roommate’s handgun.

Officers just before 5 a.m. spotted Jarrett but he fired the gun into the ground and ran into woods.

Late Sunday morning, a man in the Bear Valley neighborhood reported seeing Jarrett. He again ran into woods, where officers spoke to him by cellphone.

Police began tracking Jarrett just before 2:30 p.m. and found him nearly an hour later.

Police had obtained an arrest warrant on felony assault, weapons misconduct and theft counts.
