LA CANADA-FLINTRIDGE, Calif. (AP) - A Southern California city plans to import recycled water by the truckload to keep the trees and plants in its street medians green.

The Los Angeles Times reported Sunday (https://lat.ms/1GxgKFq) that La Cañada (La Can-YA’-da)-Flintridge is working to bring in water from the nearby city of Glendale because it does not have its own recycled water infrastructure.

La Cañada-Flintridge will take water from a Glendale hydrant that is metered and then will pay a per-unit fee for the water.

The city will be the first one to open a metered account as part of a Glendale program usually reserved for construction companies that need excess water for projects.

The city is already using imported recycled water to irrigate street medians at three locations three times a week.
