TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say a Toledo man has been indicted on rape charges following new DNA evidence from a rape kit.
The Blade newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/1F3ZsKr ) that 33-year-old Darnell Reynolds was indicted Friday on three counts of rape and other charges. Police were searching for him Friday.
The indictment comes amid new efforts to pursue and solve cold cases by developing DNA profiles from previously untested rape kits.
Toledo Police and the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office formed the Cold Case Sexual Assault Task Force late last year and plan to reopen more than 1,700 unsolved rape cases. Reynold’s indictment is the first to be brought against a named suspect in a cold case since the task force formed.
Reynolds is accused of raping three women in 2010 and 2011.
