LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for parts of western, central and southern Arkansas as heavy rain moves into the area.

The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, issued the warning Sunday for the region, including the Little Rock area. Forecasters say thunderstorms packing heavy rain and wind gusts of up to 70 mph were moving northeast at 50 mph.

In addition, a tornado watch was issued for much of the state as the severe storms pass through. The tornado watch will remain in effect until 10 p.m.

Meanwhile, a flash flood warning remains is in effect in western Arkansas. Forecasters say between 1 and 3 inches of rain fell Sunday morning and that as much as 3 more inches of rainfall is possible Sunday afternoon.
