HONOLULU (AP) - Residents say they are against bringing a $1 million zip line to Waimalu, and the developer has yet to make a final decision on the proposal.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports (https://bit.ly/1Bkf6AT ) that an affiliate of Towne Development of Hawaii Inc. has proposed adding seven pairs of zip lines and a 1,200-square-foot nature center to a property above the Royal Summit neighborhood.
Towne calls it a “nature park,” allowing it to be placed in an area zoned for conservation with a permit from the state.
The Department of Land and Natural Resources has yet to supply that permit. The agency has given Towne until October to complete an environmental impact statement or request an extension.
DLNR says the developer should address the park’s potential impact on the community.
