LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has called for all flags to be lowered to half-staff in the state Capitol complex in observance of Memorial Day.

Snyder joined President Barack Obama’s call for all U.S. flags to be lowered on Monday. Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments and other organizations are encouraged to follow suit.

Flags are to be displayed at half-staff until noon and at full-staff from noon to sunset.

The Republican governor says in a statement that there is time to spend with family and friends as well as “honor those Americans who have given their lives in defense of our nation.”
