Man dies after car leaves road, strikes tree

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Police believe speed may have contributed to a crash that left a 23-year-old man dead in East Providence.

Investigators say Daniel Lopes was behind the wheel of a car that struck a tree on North Broadway Saturday morning. He was pulled from the vehicle but pronounced dead later at Rhode Island Hospital.

No one else was in the vehicle at the time. Police are continuing the investigation.
