PITMAN, N.J. (AP) - Police in one small New Jersey town are offering free coffee to residents as a means to try to strengthen ties to the community.

Officers in the southern New Jersey town of Pitman are planning to set up tents in the parking lot of a convenience store on Wednesday.

Chief Robert Zimmerman tells the Courier-Post (https://on.cpsj.com/1IXxvtI ) that it’s a way to build trust “during these most difficult times.”

The community has not had any major conflicts between residents and police.
