TOOELE, Utah (AP) - A Tooele police officer shot and killed a dog that bit his hand while he was investigating a domestic disturbance.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1HD4vIE ) that the officer was responding to a Friday morning call from a neighbor.

A Tooele Police Department news release says the neighbor told dispatch it sounded as if a male and female were going to kill each other.

When he arrived, the officer heard a woman screaming from the back of the home. The police department says he entered the backyard and a large dog bit his hand. The officer shot the dog twice, killing it.

The officer was treated at a local hospital and released.

The police department expects to release body camera footage of the incident as soon as possible.
