BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) - The Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of the summer season on Cape Cod and with it, the inevitable traffic backups around the Bourne and Sagamore Bridges.

The idea of a third bridge leading on and off the Cape has been raised in the last year but motorists would be advised not to hold their breaths waiting for it to be built.

A spokesman for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation tells the Cape Cod Times (https://bit.ly/1HqBaMj ) a potential third bridge between the two existing ones is still in the “concept stage” at this point.

With funding for all state transportation projects extremely tight, state officials last year discussed the possibility of a toll bridge built through a public-private partnership. There are no tolls on the Sagamore and Bourne Bridges.
