NEOSHO, Mo. (AP) - A judge in southwest Missouri has approved a settlement in a fatal crash involving a Newton County deputy.

The Joplin Globe reports (https://bit.ly/1Kt5yfd ) that the family of 33-year-old Cory Sheppard, of Neosho, recently reached a settlement of about $460,000 in their wrongful-death lawsuit against Newton County and Deputy David Trimble.

Circuit Judge Tim Perigo approved the settlement in Newton County Circuit Court on Friday.

Sheppard was killed three years ago when the deputy was answering an emergency call and ran over the motorcycle Shepperd was riding.

The Joplin law firm handling the lawsuit for the family will receive about $153,000 of the settlement. The remainder will be split among Shepperd’s four children.
