ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) - An Everett, Washington, man accused of abducting a 15-year-old California girl he met online, sexually assaulting her and finally letting her go in Oregon has pleaded not guilty to 12 felony charges.

The Daily Astorian reports (https://bit.ly/1cc4ldm ) Russell Wayne Deviney’s bail was set at $1 million after prosecutors discovered he had assets from former employment at Microsoft. Deviney’s attorney says he has no money.

The 48-year-old Deviney was arrested May 14 near Cannon Beach. Police say the girl, from Sanger, Calif., thought she was meeting an 18-year-old boy. After assaulting her at a rest area, Deviney left her at a fast-food restaurant in Astoria.

A grand jury on Thursday indicted Deviney; he entered his plea Friday in Clatsop County Circuit Court. His charges range from first-degree kidnapping to first-degree rape.
