PIQUA, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say a man has been killed in a fiery car crash in western Ohio after his vehicle struck a cement culvert and a pole before bursting into flames.

Sgt. Chris Bobb with the Miami County Sheriff’s Department said officers responded to the reported accident after 2 a.m. Sunday near Piqua. Bobb says fire crews worked to put out the flames, but the driver, 26-year-old John Owen of Piqua, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s department is investigating the SUV crash, but Bobb says speed does not appear to be a factor.

A neighbor near the crash tells WHIO-TV in Dayton that it sounded like an explosion.
