SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Police in Savannah arrested two people after a wreck that sent an officer to the hospital.

Local media report a car ran a red light and broadsided a marked police car at an intersection just before 9 p.m. Saturday. The car then spun through a pedestrian traffic signal and a fence and hit a townhouse. The driver ran away.

Jose Maria Perez, who’s 18, faces charges including driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, failing to render aid and driving without a license.

Margarita Ruiz-Gomez, who’s 19, is charged with false report. Police say she reported the car stolen but later said her boyfriend had been driving it.

It wasn’t immediately clear if either had a lawyer.

The officer was treated at a hospital and released.
