CHICAGO (AP) - A Memorial Day ceremony is scheduled in Chicago’s Grant Park to honor Illinoisans who served and died in the military.

Monday’s wreath-laying will take place at the Gen. John A. Logan Monument in the downtown park. Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle will be the keynote speaker.

Special tribute will be paid to Cpl. Sara A. Medina. The Aurora native was a U.S. Marine Corps combat photographer who was killed during an earthquake relief mission in Nepal.

Army Private Aaron Toppen will also be singled out. The Frankfort man died last year in Afghanistan.

Representatives from each military branch and the Daughters of the American Revolution also will take part. Ceremonies will include a 21-gun salute by the Chicago Police Department. The Chicago Cultural Mile Association is sponsoring the event.
