LAKE ARTHUR, La. (AP) - Authorities say two Lafayette men drowned in Lake Arthur Park.

Multiple news outlets report 23-year-old DeKeithan Dugas and 24-year old-Keylon Lambert died Monday afternoon. Family members say the two friends were playing a game to see who could swim the fastest when they went under. Dugas’ brother and another man also were in the water but survived.

Authorities recovered the bodies Monday after a nearly four-hour search.

A spokesman with the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office says there is normally a chain-link fence that stretches from a dock to a section about 200 feet down the beach. The fence is there to keep swimmers from going into the main parts of the lake, but it was recently removed for maintenance.
