ALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y. (AP) - Three St. Lawrence River mariners are being recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard for rescuing a kayaker a year ago.

The Coast Guard says the Capt. David P. Dobbins Award will be presented to three crewmembers of the tour boat Island Wanderer: Capt. Carrie Jenne, Greg Lyons and Molly Bashaw.

The trio is credited with saving the life of a kayaker who fell into the river at Alexandria Bay in early May 2014.

The Coast Guard’s Dobbins Award is presented in recognition of outstanding action accomplished while conducting a search and rescue mission on the Great Lakes. The award is named for first superintendent of the U.S. Lifesaving Service of the Great Lakes in 1876.

The award is being presented Wednesday morning aboard the Alexandria Belle docked in Alexandria Bay.
