DAMASCUS, Va. (AP) - The side rails of a trestle on the Virginia Creeper Trail have been extended to improve safety.
Two wing wall extensions were added on both sides of Trestle 25 to prevent bikers from inadvertently riding off the trail. The trestle is on the U.S. Forest Service section of the trail between Whitetop and Damascus.
The Bristol Herald Courier (https://bit.ly/1dtokpe ) reports that the project was prompted by an accident in 2014. A biker missed the trestle and went into Whitetop Laurel Creek.
The wing wall extensions were a joint project of the Forest Service and the Virginia Creeper Trail Club.
