MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The state Board of Education plans a Tuesday meeting, and the only action item on the agenda is appointment of the Alabama Public Charter School Commission.

The charter school commission is responsible for hearing appeals of charter school applications rejected on the local level.

The Decatur Daily reports (https://bit.ly/1FNdzc0) that two weeks ago, the Board of Education was expected to choose 10 members from a list of 21 nominees for the charter school committee that were submitted by the governor, lieutenant governor, Senate president pro tem and speaker of the House. Four board members didn’t participate in the process of narrowing the list from 21 to 10 and then voted against the other three members in confirming the names.

The Charter School Commission is supposed to be seated by June 1.
