HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Chattanooga defensive end Davis Tull and Samford outside hitter Michaela Reesor have been named the Southern Conference athletes of the year.

The announcement came Tuesday from the league’s spring meetings on Hilton Head Island. The winners are determined through a vote of conference athletic directors and a media member representing each league school.

Tull is the first Chattanooga athlete to win the male award. He earned the conference’s defensive player of the year for a third straight season and was picked as an AP All-American after finishing the year with 10.5 sacks. Tull helped the Mocs win the conference football title and its first FCS playoff game last December.

Reesor is the first Samford athlete to win the female award. She helped the Bulldogs win the SoCon volleyball tournament championship.
