NEW BUFFALO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A fire at an apartment complex in southwestern Michigan prompted the evacuation of 16 units.

No injuries are reported following the Monday night fire at Oakview Estates in Berrien County’s New Buffalo Township.

Crews from a number of area departments responded and contained the fire to one unit. Investigators say it appears that the fire started in the kitchen and spread throughout the apartment. Seven other apartments had water or smoke damage.

The American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist residents with lodging and food.
